Medical Benefits of Cannabis Receives National Attention
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
Medical Marijuana - the most exciting and underreported developments in modern science and medicine. The Endocannabinoid System, a previously unknown biochemical communication system in the body, which plays a crucial role in regulating our physiology, mood and everyday experience - was only discovered (1980) by researching the effects of marijuana on the human body.
"The discovery of receptors in the brain that respond pharmacologically to cannabis—and the subsequent identification of endogenous cannabinoid compounds in our own bodies that bind to these receptors—has significantly advanced our understanding of human biology, health, and disease."

Not only does this naturally occurring chemical regulate our physiology, recent studies conducted by Dr. Sean McAllister and his team at California Pacific Medical Center reported on how CBD destroys breast cancer cells. This offers a non-toxic therapy that could treat aggressive forms of cancer without painful chemotherapy.
Additionally, preclinical studies suggest that CBD may have therapeutic benefits in the treatment of various conditions, including chronic pain, anxiety, nausea, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, diabetes, PTSD, alcoholism, strokes and cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other ailments.
CBD also has anti-inflammatory, neuro-protective, and anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidants are thought to fight degenerative diseases and aging. CBD has also been shown to stimulate bone fracture healing in laboratory animals. For inhaled medical use, most users prefer varieties with THC:CBD ratios between 2:1 and 1:2. Extremely low-THC varieties are useful for making CBD extracts and tinctures. Unlike THC, CBD does not show up positive on standard drug tests for marijuana.

FACT: Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the US; affecting 40 million people, 18% of the population in the US. Nearly one-half of all those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Neuroscientists at University of Buffalo found that endocannabinoids may be helpful in treating depression that results from chronic stress. Researchers found that chronic stress reduced the production of endocannabinoids, which affect our cognition, emotion and behavior, and have been linked to reduced feelings of pain and anxiety, increases in appetite and overall feelings of well-being.
The body naturally produces these compounds, which are similar to the chemicals in cannabis. Reduction of endocannabinoid production may be one reason that chronic stress is a major risk factor in the development of depression.
Maybe it's time we take another look at medical benefits of cannabis.
